Zain Javadd Malik, known as Zayn, is an English singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Bradford, Malik tried his hand as a solo contestant for UK music competition The X Factor in 2010. After being knocked out as a solo performer, Malik was sent back to the competition along with four other contenders to form the boy group One Direction. Malik left the band in March 2015, then signed a solo recording contract with RCA Records. Embracing a more disruptive R&B style with his debut studio album, Mind of Mine, and debut single, "Pillowtalk", Malik became the first British male artist to debut at number one in the UK and US, with a first single and a first album. His collaborative singles, "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" with Taylor Swift and "Dusk Till Dawn" with Sia, have been met with great international success. Malik released his second studio album, Icarus Falls, in 2018. His third album, Nobody Is Listening, was released in January 2021
