The Best Life Advice from Wesley Snipes Movies

Wesley Snipes at the 66th Venice Film Fesitival

Wesley Snipes has been acting for more than 25 years.  The now 52-year-old star, made his first on-screen appearances in 1986 in the film Wildcats and the TV show Miami Vice.  Throughout his career, Snipes has gained recognition for being a tough action hero who never backs down in the face of a challenge.  Snipes acting skills have earned him several awards, including an MTV Award and a Blockbuster Entertainment Award. However, even with tough-as-nails reputation, Snipes has done more with his movies than simply entertain.  Many of Snipes’ films contain great pieces of helpful advice that pertain to situations outside of the film.  Here are the five best pieces of life advice from Wesley Snipes movies.

5. “You better wake up. The world you live in is just a sugar-coated topping! There is another world beneath it: the real world.”

From the 1998 hit film, Blade, Wesley Snipes gives viewers a harsh reality check.  Although the film is fictional, the truth remains that many people are living in a world that is nearly a “sugar-coated topping.”

4. “Look man, you can listen to Jimi but you can’t hear him. There’s a difference man. Just because you’re listening to him doesn’t mean you’re hearing him.”

This line from 1992’s White Men Can’t Jump drops some valuable knowledge on the difference between hearing and listening as Wesley Snipes’ character, Sidney Deane, breaks it down for his opponent Billy Hoyle (Woody Harreison).

3. ” I’ll tell you something, man, the fans are like women. When you’re hitting, they love you, and when you’re not, they just as soon spit on you as look at you!”

The 1996 thriller film, The Fan, stars Snipes as Bobby Rayburn, a professional baseball player who has recently joined the San Francisco Giants.  In these very telling lines, he reiterates his own version of the very popular sentiment that life is much lonelier once a person makes it to the top.

2. “You can put a cat in an oven, but that don’t make it a biscuit.”

Again, Wesley Snipes’ character in White Man Can’t Jump presents a much-needed lesson.  Although the quote is not advocating for putting cats in ovens, it does explain that you can’t simply turn one thing into another by pretending.

1. “When you understand the nature of a thing…you know what it’s capable of.”
